Having a sharp knife is one of the simplest ways you can keep everybody safe in the kitchen. It's a little counterintuitive, but sharper knives are safer.
This is because a sharp knife can easily cut through food and make its way to the cutting board without slipping off and making contact with fingers. Dull knives are harder to cut with, and they cause kids to use more force to get through the foodβresulting in more injuries.
I have tried many other sharpening methods, including whetstones, electric sharpeners, and the Tumbler knife sharpener. I've been using my AccuSharp for 10 years, and it provides: β 1. The best results 2. For the least amount of money 3. With the least amount of effort
1. Order the AccuSharp knife sharpener on Amazonβ 2. Have your child work with you to sharpen your kitchen knives 3. Check out my kid knife safety series on my new TikTok page! π

(Have them participate to whatever degree you feel comfortable. They can do the paper cut test, help sharpen the knives, or just watch while you work and show them the process.)
If your child doesn't have a kid-sized chef's knife, you can order my favorite here.
